Future Amazon slates to be powered by MediaTek?

A published report in China says that Amazon has signed a deal with MediaTek for the latter to supply chips for the Amazon Kindle Fire tablets. According to the report, Amazon will use the MT8135 quad-core chipset which features ARM’s big.LITTLE design. This includes two Cortex-A15 cores that are fast and used for graphic intensive chores while the two Cortex-A7 cores are used for basic housekeeping.

Signing a deal with Amazon would be quite a coup for the silicon slinger since the online retailer has become the fourth largest tablet vendor in the global market. The company ships 1.8 million to 2 million Kindle Fire units a quarter. The report says that the shipment of MediaTek processors to Amazon will play a big part in boosting MediaTek's shipments to tablet manufacturers in 2014.

While MediaTek has refused to confirm the report, the company did say that it would sign any potential client to a deal.
